Greenpeace UK: Governance Review
I partnered with Greenpeace UK to carry out an in-depth governance review, designed to strengthen effectiveness, accountability, and alignment with the organisation’s mission.
Over several months, I combined a desk-based review of policies and governance structures with an inclusive process that gave trustees and senior staff space to reflect on how decision-making really worked in practice. This approach helped to surface assumptions, test different perspectives, and identify both strengths to build on and areas needing attention.
The programme included
· A review of key governance documents and processes to establish a clear baseline.
· One-to-one conversations with trustees, senior leaders, and governance specialists to capture diverse perspectives and lived experience of governance
· A facilitated workshop with the leadership team to test assumptions and explore themes around accountability, transparency, and culture
· A detailed report setting out practical, prioritised recommendations for strengthening governance
· A second workshop with leaders and trustees to review and agree next steps
Impact:
The review gave trustees and leaders a clear roadmap for governance improvement. A dedicated working group was established to take forward the recommendations, ensuring they were translated into action. The process also created greater openness and alignment at board level, building confidence in how decisions are made and overseen.
